Tuesday, I worked at an election poll to help people vote. I love doing it, but it’s a long day, so I’m usually quite tired after. This one was quite the doozy. It was a gubernatorial primary, so there were ballots for each of the parties in each of the four language combos we offer, plus a second general ballot that everyone got. The ballots are huge, perhaps 8″x20″ of card stock, so they weigh a lot. We started with three full boxes of ballots, and finished with one full box and 3 partly full boxes. All still heavy. I was beat.
When I got home, the election adrenaline wore off, and I hurt all over. I had a small meal, some acetaminophen, and crawled to bed to wait for it to kick in. K was at a conference, so was quite late, but I still hadn’t fallen asleep by the time he got home. He kindly inquired if I had taken painkillers, because sometimes I’m too distracted to do so. Then he set up the heating pad to go under my sore back before he started getting ready for bed. When he was ready for bed, my back felt quite a bit better, but too hot, so I asked if he would move it towards my feet.
Instead, he turned it down and reminded me that we had a heated mattress topper that would act as a giant heating pad, if I just turned it on. Brilliant! I tend to sleep warm, so I almost never use it, and thus had forgotten. I turned it to medium, and it worked just as he said. I felt much better than the post-event norm this morning. This is why he is the Best Boyfriend Ever!
